# שמעון בן שושן אלוף-משנה שמעון בן שושן היה קצין בחיל השריון של צה"ל, שפיקד על חטיבה 265 בשנות השבעים. הוא השתתף בשלוש מלחמות עיקריות וזכה להכרה על הנהגתו בקרבות קשים, בעיקר במלחמת יום הכיפורים שבה נפצע קשה. ## ביוגרפיה שמעון בן שושן נולד בשנת 1939 במרוקו. בגיל עשר החל בתהליך עלייה לישראל במסגרת עליית הנוער. תחילה עזב עם הוריו לצרפת, ומשם עבר לבדו לנורווגיה. בשנת 1950 עלה לישראל. ## קריירה צבאית בנובמבר 1956 התגייס לצה"ל והוצב בחיל השריון בגדוד 52 של חטיבה 7. בשנת 1959 סיים קורס קציני שריון ובשנים 1959–1960 פיקד על מחלקת טנקים בגדוד 52. בשנים 1960–1964 שירת בתפקידי הדרכה בבית הספר לשריון כמדריך בקורס מפקדי טנקים ועוזר המדריך הראשי. בשנים 1964–1965 שב לגדוד 52 כסגן מפקד פלוגה ולאחר מכן כמפקד פלוגה. בדצמבר 1964 הוענק לו ציון לשבח על תפקודו בקרב עם הצבא הסורי בגזרת קיבוץ דן כמפקד פלוגת טנקי שרמן. בשנים 1966–1967 למד, ובשנים 1967–1968 שירת כקצין אג"ם של חטיבה 45 בפיקודו של אל"ם משה בר כוכבא, כולל במלחמת ששת הימים, שבה לחם נגד צבא ירדן בצפון השומרון ונגד צבא סוריה באזור הבניאס. בשנים 1968–1969 שירת כסגן מפקד גדוד 82 בחטיבה 7 תחת פיקודו של אל"ם אברהם רותם. בשנת 1969 הקים את גדוד 77 (שנקרא תחילה גדוד 211). במלחמת ההתשה פיקד על מוצב "טמפו" בצפון תעלת סואץ. בשנים 1969–1970 למד במכללה הבין זרועית לפיקוד ומטה. בשנים 1970–1972 שירת במתקן 500 בצאלים כמפקד המטווח החילי של השריון ובהמשך כמדריך ראשי. בשנים 1972–1973 עמד בראש ענף תורת לחימה במפקדת גייסות השריון, ובמינוי משני פיקד על גדוד טנקים 257 בחטיבת השריון במילואים 421 בפיקודו של חיים ארז. ## מלחמת יום הכיפורים כשלושה חודשים לאחר מינויו למפקד הגדוד פרצה מלחמת יום הכיפורים. בן שושן הוביל את הגדוד בחזית המצרית בקרבות הבלימה בגזרה המרכזית של תעלת סואץ, בעיקר בגזרת רכס חמוטל, ובהדיפת המתקפה המצרית ב-14 באוקטובר. בהמשך השתתף הגדוד בפיקודו במבצע אבירי לב והוטל עליו לגרור את גשר הגלילים לנקודת הצליחה. במהלך הפעולה נקרע הגשר, ובעקבות זאת נשלח עם הגדוד לסייע בפתיחת פרוזדור הצליחה לתנועה. ב-16 באוקטובר 1973 נפצע קשה מפגיעת טיל נ"ט. לאחר תקופת שיקום ממושכת והפוגת לימודים בת למעלה משנה, בה השלים תואר ראשון בגאוגרפיה באוניברסיטת תל אביב, שב לשירות פעיל. ## המשך הקריירה בשנים 1975–1976 שימש כסגן מפקד חטיבת השריון במילואים 656. בשנים 1976–1977 שירת כראש מטה אוגדה 440 בדרגת אלוף-משנה. בשנים 1977–1978 פיקד על חטיבת השריון במילואים 265 שהתבססה על טנקי שלל והייתה כפופה לאוגדה 440. בשנים 1978–1981 הדריך בפו"ם, ובשנת 1982 השתחרר משירות קבע בצה"ל. זמן קצר לאחר פרישתו החל מבצע שלום הגליל בלבנון. במסגרת שירות המילואים שירת כקצין קישור במפקדת גיס 479 בפיקודו של משה בר כוכבא, שהייתה אחראית על ההגנה על רמת הגולן. המשיך בשירות מילואים עד גיל 58. ## חיים אישיים נישא לחיה ולהם שלושה ילדים. לאחר פרישתו מצה"ל תרם את ספרייתו למרכז המידע ולמכינות קדם-צבאיות. שמעון בן שושן נפטר בדצמבר 2025 בגיל 86 בערך.

# Shimon Ben Shoshan Brigadier General Shimon Ben Shoshan was an officer in the IDF Armored Corps who commanded Brigade 265 during the 1970s. He participated in three major wars and received recognition for his leadership in difficult battles, particularly in the Yom Kippur War, in which he was severely wounded. ## Biography Shimon Ben Shoshan was born in 1939 in Morocco. At age ten, he began the process of immigrating to Israel as part of the youth aliyah program. He initially left with his parents for France, and from there traveled alone to Norway. In 1950, he immigrated to Israel. ## Military Career In November 1956, he enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Armored Corps in Battalion 52 of Brigade 7. In 1959, he completed an armor officers' course and from 1959–1960 commanded a tank platoon in Battalion 52. From 1960–1964, he served in training positions at the Armor School as an instructor in the tank commanders' course and as senior instructor's assistant. From 1964–1965, he returned to Battalion 52 as deputy platoon commander and subsequently as platoon commander. In December 1964, he received a commendation for his performance in combat against the Syrian army in the Kibbutz Dan sector as commander of a Sherman tank platoon. From 1966–1967 he studied, and from 1967–1968 served as adjutant of Brigade 45 under the command of Major General Moshe Bar Kochba, including in the Six-Day War, in which he fought against the Jordanian army in northern Samaria and against the Syrian army in the Banias area. From 1968–1969, he served as deputy commander of Battalion 82 in Brigade 7 under the command of Major General Avraham Rotem. In 1969, he established Battalion 77 (initially called Battalion 211). During the War of Attrition, he commanded the "Tempo" position in the northern Suez Canal. From 1969–1970, he studied at the Inter-Service Command and Staff College. From 1970–1972, he served at Facility 500 in Tzalim as commander of the Armor Corps firing range and subsequently as senior instructor. From 1972–1973, he headed the combat doctrine department at the Armored Corps headquarters, and in a secondary appointment commanded Tank Battalion 257 in Reserve Armored Brigade 421 under the command of Chaim Arez. ## Yom Kippur War Approximately three months after his appointment as battalion commander, the Yom Kippur War broke out. Ben Shoshan led his battalion on the Egyptian front in holding battles in the central sector of the Suez Canal, particularly in the Hamuttal Ridge area, and in repelling the Egyptian attack on October 14. Subsequently, his battalion participated in Operation Priha (Bravery) and was tasked with towing the pontoon bridge to the crossing point. During the operation, the bridge was torn, and as a result, he was sent with his battalion to assist in opening the crossing corridor for traffic. On October 16, 1973, he was severely wounded by an anti-tank missile. After an extended rehabilitation period and a study break of more than a year, during which he completed a bachelor's degree in geography at Tel Aviv University, he returned to active service. ## Later Career From 1975–1976, he served as deputy commander of Reserve Armored Brigade 656. From 1976–1977, he served as chief of staff of Division 440 with the rank of Brigadier General. From 1977–1978, he commanded Reserve Armored Brigade 265, which was based on captured tanks and was subordinate to Division 440. From 1978–1981, he instructed at the Command and Staff College, and in 1982 was discharged from regular IDF service. Shortly after his retirement, Operation Peace for Galilee began in Lebanon. As part of reserve service, he served as liaison officer at the headquarters of Corps 479 under the command of Moshe Bar Kochba, which was responsible for the defense of the Golan Heights. He continued in reserve service until age 58. ## Personal Life He was married to Chaya and had three children. After retiring from the IDF, he donated his library to the Information Center and pre-military preparatory programs. Shimon Ben Shoshan passed away in December 2025 at approximately age 86.
