A graduate of the High Esteem Theatre School, Shikva’s first love has always been music, so to draw on his accumulated knowledge for the song writing process was the natural choice. The emotional connection that he has with music runs deep throughout his creations, often demonstrating the influence of such artists as Joni Mitchell, Madonna, K's Choice, Alanis Morrissette, Damien Rice, Xavier Rudd, Sia, and Bob Dylan. None of the tracks that Shikva has released so far allows any room to hide; he stands proudly at the centre of all that he does, in the traditions of those peers he so admires. In 2020 he released a cover of Queen’s iconic ‘I WAnt to Break Free’, a cover so brilliantly ethereal and evocative that Freddie himself would have smiled as he listened. Unplugged, stripped down to the bone, with a piano and subtle strings as his only accompaniment, the track is a testament to the power of song, and the drama it can hold. This outstanding debut was followed by ‘Wildest Dreams’, ‘Bad Guy’, and his latest hit ‘Johnny,’ which offers a fuller sound, and features an accompaniment of drums and distinct harmonies. The common thread woven throughout all these tracks is that there is a story to be told. Tenderly navigating the past, present and future, Shikva is determined to enter the hearts of his fans, and show them that people need to be themselves in order to be complete.
