# אשר כנפו אשר כנפו הוא סופר, איש חינוך ועורך ישראלי שעסק בשימור ותיעוד מורשת יהדות מרוקו. הוא ידוע בעבודתו הרחבה בתחומי החינוך, התרבות והספרות, וכן בהנהלת התזמורת האנדלוסית הישראלית באשדוד. תרומתו המרכזית הייתה בהצלת וחקר התרבות העממית של קהילת יוצאי מרוקו בישראל. ## ביוגרפיה אשר כנפו נולד בשנת 1935 באסואירה במרוקו, למשפחת רבנים ידועה שהיא צאצאי רבי יוסף כנפו. בנעוריו עלה לישראל בשנת 1951 עם חברת נוער שהתחנכה בקיבוץ כפר דרום (כיום מושב בני דרום). בשנת 1961 יצא לשליחות באיטליה ובצרפת, שם למד ספרות באוניברסיטת סורבון בפריז. בשנת 1974 יצא לשליחות חינוכית בפנמה, שם כיהן כמנהל הלימודים העבריים בבית הספר היהודי. בצרפת, במחנה ארנאס, הקים את בית הספר הראשון לילדי העולים מצפון אפריקה. לאחר שובו לארץ בשנות ה-70 המאוחרות, כיהן מ-1980 כמפקח וראש תחום חינוך חברתי במחוז הדרום של משרד החינוך. כנפו בעל תואר ראשון ושני מטעם אוניברסיטת תל אביב. ## קריירה בשנת 1977 ייסד את "זיו המערב", האגודה לשימור מורשת יהדות צפון אפריקה, שפעילותה הביאה להקמת התזמורת האנדלוסית בשנת 1994. כנפו כיהן כיושב ראש התזמורת, תקופה שבה קיבלה התזמורת את פרס ישראל. כנפו פרסם מספר רב של ספרים: - "התינוק מאופראן" (2000) - רומן המבוסס על אירוע היסטורי, שזכה להצלחה גדולה והודפס בארבע מהדורות. על פי הספר הופקו שני מחזות, ותורגם לצרפתית (2012) ולערבית מוגרבית (2015). - "יכין: על משנתו החינוכית ערכית של רבי יוסף כנאפו" (2006) - קובץ מחקר שבו השתתפו 18 חוקרים. - "חתונה במוגדור" (2004) - תיעוד של עשרות כתובות מאוירות מפוארות מקהילת יהודי מרוקו. - "הפייטן, השתקן ומספר הסיפורים" (2006) - רומן עם איורים של אלברט אלמוזנינו. - "חזן בבית המרחץ" (2010) - קובץ סיפורים מחורזים הומוריסטיים על חיי יהודי מרוקו. - "תה עם נענע" (2014) - ספר בדיחה והחידוד של יהודי מרוקו. - "הכינור ואני" (2016) - רומן סמי אוטוביוגרפי המתאר את המסע מילדותו במרוקו אל מדינת ישראל. - "מהן אותן מלים..." (2017) - ספר שירים וחרוזים. - "גשם נדבות" (2019) - ספורים ונובלות. - "נשימתו האחרונה" (2022) - רומן. - "שירת האבנים" (2023) - בשיתוף שלום אלדר. - "משלי לה פונטיין" (2023) - תרגום לעברית עם איורים של חי כנפו. כנפו הוא עורכו של כתב העת "ברית - כתב העת הדו-לשוני של יהדות מרוקו" (עברי/צרפתי), היוצא בהוצאת אות ברית קודש בירושלים. כתב העת הופיע בכ-40 גליונות וכלל מאמרים של עשרות הוגים וחוקרים, והפך למקור מוביל לידע על התרבות והקהילה של יהדות מרוקו. כנפו שימש כיועץ רשמי ולא רשמי לתלמידי מחקר ופעילויות תרבותיות. השתתף בהקמת הארכיב של יהדות מרוקו וערך את המוזיאון הווירטואלי של המרכז העולמי של יהדות צפון אפריקה בירושלים. בנוסף, שימש במשך שנים כסופר אורח בבתי ספר ברחבי הארץ ומרצה על יהדות מרוקו במוסדות ציבוריים שונים. מזה מספר שנים כנפו נוסע למרוקו מדי שנה לביצוע פעולות שיקום ותיעוד בבית העלמין היהודי באסואירה. הוא צילם, העתיק ופירש כתובות על מצבות קברים, חלקן בסגנון הפיוט מאת גדולי משוררי יהדות מרוקו. בהכרה בחשיבות פעילותו, HIGH ATLAS FOUNDATION הזמינה אותו להכשיר אנשים לשיקום בתי עלמין מוסלמיים ונוצריים בעיר. ## הישגים כנפו זכה בפרסים רבים על תרומתו: - בשנת 2016 זכה באות הוקרה "לבי במזרח" מטעם "קואליציית לבי במזרח" - בשנת 2016 זכה בפרס החינוך למורה יוצר מטעם ארגון המורים - בספטמבר 2017 זכה בפרס גאון על שם רנה וניסים גאון - בשנת 2017 זכה באות יקיר הרשות - עולים ומגשימים מטעם משרד החינוך - ביוני 2021 זכה בפרס ליצירה בתחומי התרבות והאמנות של יהודי צפון אפריקה על שם רונית אבגי - בשנת 2022 זכה בפרס יקיר העיר אשדוד ## חיים אישיים אשר כנפו נשוי לחנה ולהם שישה ילדים. בין ילדיו שירה כנפו, חוקרת אלצהיימר, ואריאל כנפו, חוקר הפסיכולוגיה. הראל כנפו הוא אחיינו. כנפו מתגורר באשדוד.

# Asher Knafo Asher Knafo is an Israeli writer, educator, and editor who has dedicated himself to the preservation and documentation of Moroccan Jewish heritage. He is renowned for his extensive work in the fields of education, culture, and literature, as well as for his leadership of the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra in Ashdod. His primary contribution has been in rescuing and researching the folk culture of the Moroccan Jewish community in Israel. ## Biography Asher Knafo was born in 1935 in Essaouira, Morocco, into a prominent rabbinic family descended from Rabbi Yosef Knafo. In his youth, he immigrated to Israel in 1951 with a youth group that was educated at Kibbutz Kfar Darom (today Moshav Beni Darom). In 1961, he was sent on a mission to Italy and France, where he studied literature at the Sorbonne University in Paris. In 1974, he was sent on an educational mission to Panama, where he served as director of Hebrew studies at the Jewish school. In France, at Camp Arenas, he established the first school for children of immigrants from North Africa. Following his return to Israel in the late 1970s, he served from 1980 as an inspector and head of the social education department in the Southern District of the Ministry of Education. Knafo holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Tel Aviv University. ## Career In 1977, he founded "Ziv HaMaarav," the association for the preservation of North African Jewish heritage, whose activities led to the establishment of the Andalusian Orchestra in 1994. Knafo served as chairman of the orchestra, a period during which it received the Israel Prize. Knafo has published numerous books: - "The Baby from Ouezzane" (2000) - a novel based on a historical event that achieved great success and was printed in four editions. Knafo is the editor of the journal "Brit - The Bilingual Journal of Moroccan Jewry" (Hebrew/French), published by Alef Brit Kodesh Publishing in Jerusalem. The journal has appeared in approximately 40 issues and has included articles by dozens of thinkers and scholars, becoming a leading source of knowledge about the culture and community of Moroccan Jewry. Knafo has served as an official and unofficial advisor to research students and cultural activities. He participated in establishing the Moroccan Jewish Archive and curated the virtual museum of the World Center of North African Jewry in Jerusalem. Additionally, he has served for many years as a guest writer in schools throughout the country and as a lecturer on Moroccan Jewry at various public institutions. For several years, Knafo has traveled to Morocco annually to carry out restoration and documentation work at the Jewish cemetery in Essaouira. He has photographed, transcribed, and interpreted inscriptions on gravestones, some in the style of liturgical poetry by the great poets of Moroccan Jewry. Among his children are Shira Knafo, an Alzheimer's researcher, and Ariel Knafo, a psychology researcher. Harel Knafo is his nephew. Knafo resides in Ashdod.
