The band specialized in children's songs and works by Hebrew poets, becoming one of the most beloved bands in Israel during the 1970s and subsequent decades. ## Biography The band was founded in 1971 by Gidi Korn, who was then a medical student. The name "The Brothers and Sisters" was conceived by manager Etan Gafni, directly influenced by the American band The Mamas & The Papas. Initially, the band was called "Studnik," but it did not achieve success. Following a change in membership, the band began producing numerous hits, including "Meot Ketanot" (Small Change), produced by Shlomo Artzi. ## Career ### First Period (1971-1983) In 1973, the band recorded songs that became classics, including "Ir Shalom" (City of Peace) by Ze'ev Jabotinsky, "First Love" by Leah Goldberg, and "God Have Mercy on Kindergarten Children" by Yehuda Amichai. In 1974, Varda Shagal joined the band, and that same year marked the beginning of collaboration with poet Natan Yonatan. In 1975, a complete album dedicated to Yonatan's songs was recorded, featuring well-known pieces such as "Two Oaks," "Like a Ballad," "On the Branches of the Willow," and "Beaches." Concurrently, the band began recording children's albums, including "The Journey to the Land of Notes" (1974), "The Train," "Shubi Dubi," and "Zalman Has Pants." The band also recorded Hebrew versions of Beatles songs. Throughout the 1970s, the band changed its lineup several times while maintaining a consistent structure of two men ("brothers") and two women ("sisters"). In 1982, Gidi Korn left for Canada, where he worked as a professor of toxicology. The band disbanded in 1983. ### Second Period (2002-2010) In 2002, the band reunited for filming the television series "Shara'la Sharon," featuring Moni Arnon, Varda Shagal, Suzy Miller, and Vicki Tabor. The enthusiastic response led to the decision to resume regular performances. A new member, Nimrod Paz, was added, nicknamed "The Younger Brother," replacing Korn's position. During this period, the band performed new arrangements of older songs, including works by Ehud Manor and Uzi Hitman. In 2005, the band released a book of Natan Yonatan's poetry titled "Living Within the Song" with English translations, and performed songs in both Hebrew and English. In 2008, the band released a double compilation album featuring new versions of their songs and the new song "The Account of Love." The band finally disbanded in 2010, but reunited in 2023 for a concert celebrating Suzy Miller's 70th birthday. ## Achievements The band won first place at the Children's Song Festival in 1976 with the song "Shubi Dubi." In 1977, it placed second at the Song and Chorus Festival with "Suddenly Spring Fell Upon Me." In 1980, it won first place at the Song and Chorus Festival with "Returning Chorus," written and composed by Gidi Korn. ## Musical Style This band was characterized by a unique sound based on rich vocal harmonies. All band members sang and played instruments, and the combination of two male voices and two female voices created a relatively distinctive sound in Hebrew music.
