About Micha Biton

Micha Biton is a musician and storyteller born in 1964 in Sderot, Israel. He grew up in a large family of ten children and was profoundly influenced by his relationship with Israeli author Galila Ron-Feder, who became his foster mother in Jerusalem and served as his inspiration for her acclaimed youth novel series "To Myself" ("El Atzmi"). Biton is a founder of the band Tanara in the 1990s and was among the first Israeli musicians to blend Western rock music with Moroccan-inspired scales and instrumentation, a style recognized as "Ethnic Rock." Rather than leaving Sderot like other musicians from the city, Biton chose to invest in education and his community. He taught music and theater and founded a performing arts center in Sderot. In addition to his educational work, he released solo albums including "Time Traveler" (2005), "The Bright Side" (2008), and "Deep Breath" (2010), which featured the successful song "He Will Come." Biton also composed the theme song for the 1988 film "To Myself" ("El Atzmi") and developed a performance piece titled "From Sderot to Jerusalem" based on his personal story.
