# Gilad Kahana Gilad Kahana is an Israeli singer, songwriter, poet, writer, visual artist, and actor. He is known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the rock band "Giraffes," and is recognized in the local rock scene as an artist with a prominent presence and a critical stance against the conservative establishment. ## Biography Gilad Kahana was born on September 1, 1970, in Mexico to Israeli parents who were there on a mission led by his father, Jonah. After returning to Israel, Kahana went back to Mexico at age nine, and subsequently grew up in Tzahala in Tel Aviv. In 1992, he founded his band "Giraffes" together with Yair Kaz while serving in the Israel Defense Forces as an education officer in the artillery corps. ## Career ### Music In 1999, the band released their debut album "Conversing with a Chair." In 2000, after the band ceased its activities, Kahana released his first solo album titled "I Forgot How to Eat," which he produced and recorded himself. At the end of 2002, "Giraffes" resumed performing and embarked on a tour throughout Israel. In 2004, he released a second solo album in English called "The Promised Landing" and an instrumental album titled "360." In 2006, Kahana released an album with "Giraffes" called "Roof," which received positive reviews and commercial success, achieving gold album status. In 2009, Kahana released a poetry collection titled "A Viewpoint Pointing to the Sea" and an English-language album called "The Walking Man." In 2011, Kahana published a weekly personal column in "City Mouse." In 2017, he began broadcasting a weekly radio program called "Rowing into the Present" on "Kan Culture," the Israeli Broadcasting Authority's station. In 2025, Kahana began serving as a presenter for the digital bank "ONE ZERO." ## Achievements In November 2015, Kahana won the Landau Prize for the Performing Arts. ## Personal Life Kahana was married to actress Tal Lipshitz. He subsequently remarried and had two daughters from this marriage: Asia and Danny. This marriage also ended in divorce.
