# Danny Sanderson Danny Sanderson is an Israeli guitarist, singer-songwriter, lyricist, composer, and music producer. He is considered one of the fathers of Israeli rock and an influential creator in Israeli music, renowned primarily for his humorous and witty songwriting. Sanderson was the principal songwriter and composer for the bands "Beehive," "Shears," and "Uncle," which are considered among the most important bands in the history of Israeli rock. ## Biography Sanderson was born on November 30, 1950, in Tiberias. His parents, Chaim and Rina, were Americans who immigrated to Israel in 1948 for Zionist reasons and settled in Kibbutz Blaum. When he was one year old, the family moved to Haifa, and in 1958 to Savion. In 1960, his father was appointed as an El Al representative in New York, where Sanderson grew up until 1968. During his childhood, he learned to play guitar and banjo from his uncle and was influenced by various musical streams. In New York, he was exposed to American music, blues, and rock and roll. At age 14, he began taking music lessons, and in 1966 he joined a band called "The Moon." In 1968, Sanderson returned to Israel and was drafted into the IDF as part of the "Nachal Band." During his military service, he formed connections with Meir Fenigstein, Alon Olaretzky, and Gidi Gov. After his discharge in 1971, he launched an independent career. ## Career ### The Seventies and Eighties In 1972, Sanderson released a solo EP with two songs in English: "Like To Tag Along" and "Conspiracy." Later that year, he founded the band "Beehive," which became the first Israeli rock band to achieve significant commercial success. Following "Beehive's" dissolution in 1976, Sanderson wrote his first book, "Public Snoring." In 1978, he produced Yehonatan Geffen's live album "Salon Conversations" and founded the band "Shears" with Gidi Gov, which operated until 1979. In 1980, he founded the band "Uncle," which disbanded after one year. In April 1982, his first solo album "Natural Size" was released on CBS, from which the songs "Pickaxe," "Surfer," "Reason to Live," and "Hypnosis" became hits. In 1983, Sanderson attempted to develop a career in the American music market in Los Angeles, but the attempt was unsuccessful. In 2001, his duet with Mazi Cohen, "It's All for You," was defined as the most beloved song among Israeli audiences according to "Danny Sanderson's Song Parade," which was broadcast on Channel 3. ## Personal Life Sanderson was married to Naomi Sanderson, a designer, from 1978 until her death on September 25, 2005, at age 52 from cancer. Sanderson has two children: filmmaker Adam Sanderson and actress Dina Sanderson. Sanderson is a grandfather to four grandchildren. Since 2008, Sanderson has been in a relationship with actress Anat Atzmon. He resides in Tel Aviv.
