His mother was born in the Soviet Union and his father was born in Poland. His parents divorced during his childhood, and he moved with his mother to Jerusalem following her work at the Ministry of Social Welfare. He later grew up as a kibbutz child at Ein HaShofet and Sha'ar HaAmakim kibbutzim. At age six, he began studying piano, and later learned accordion and guitar. At age seventeen, he returned to Haifa, where he was exposed to American blues and soul music and founded the band "The Sharks" with friends. He served in the military in the Artillery Corps as a combat unit. ## Career ### The 1970s and Early Years Following his military service, he founded the band "The Bachelors," which became a professional band after the Six-Day War and performed on Shimon Israeli's television program. Later, they changed the band's name to "The Terrible Tiger." Early in his career, he became acquainted with Bob Dylan's songs, which greatly influenced him. In May and December 1971, he met Dylan in Israel and New York, and they maintained a friendship. In 1970, he recorded his first solo composition. In the early 1970s, he composed several songs to lyrics by Leah Goldberg, which he passed on to singer Tzila Dagan early in her career. He met Drora Chavkin while she was working on the music for the "Terrible Tiger" production. They had a romance while she was married to Dov Nashri, and she officially divorced in the summer of 1969. They separated in May 1973. Shortly thereafter, he married actress Judith (Judy) Rosenberg, and they had two children together. In 1990, they divorced, and he married Anat, with whom he had two more children—Liam and May. In 2010, it was announced that Litani suffered from a condition causing hearing impairment. Nevertheless, he continued to pursue music. On January 20, 2022, he gave his final performance before undergoing surgery to restore his hearing through a cochlear implant. Following the surgery, he underwent a recovery process, and since then has been unable to sing himself.
